Vintages Vibes: European Cars in L.A.

Whether you swear by the East or the West Coast in the US doesn’t matter. One thing is sure: West Coast is the best Coast for vintage European cars.

I’ve always had a love for vintage cars. I remember the roles they played in my favorite movies. Growing up on the east coast, certain types of cars were rarer than others, maybe because of the rain and snow during winter. But who’s to say for sure.

When I moved to Los Angeles in 2011, I realized pretty quick that beautiful vintage cars were in abundance. Some were restored, some were in their original state. I really think that vintage cars have more character than many of the new models on the road today. The interior design, the materials, and craftsmanship still hold up decades later while (some) new cars are falling apart as I type this.

In this piece I wanted to focus on the exquisite European models I found throughout L.A. From Alfa Romeo to BMW.

Of course, there are some amazing new models out there. But I feel like none of them garner the same reaction as a fully restored 1968 Mercedes 280SL.

I’ve watched people’s jaws drop and seen them sprint to take photos when a vintage pulls up. I understand that, when the government started implementing safety regulations, designers had to make many changes. I guess back in the day designers had a little more freedom to bring their renderings to life.

My personal favorite vintage time period is mid to late 60’s/early 70’s. In this piece I wanted to focus on the exquisite European models I found throughout L.A. From Alfa Romeo to BMW. They all tell a story. Some are passed down through generations and others newly acquired by enthusiasts.
